September 29: Taking Sides

History Kids:

Respond to the following question. Be sure to sign your post with your full name and block (3BC or 4)

You see two friends and they are fighting. They both yell to you for help. Do you help? Who? Why?

This posting is due by the start of your history block on Wednesday, September 30.

  1. Yes I would help. First I'd figure out what the problem is then decide if I want to take a side or not. I'd do this because if their both my friends I wouldn't want to lose one friend over another. It depends alot on what the problem is about and weather or not I should pick a side. Block 4

  2. I would not get involved. If in this hypothetical situation I was forced to. I would make sure to hear each side out, and then determine my opinion but not really enforce my opinion, just sort of let it be heard. It is their conflict, their decision. I know that I would NOT help one in hopes of receiving help in return. As I have so painfully learned..alliances...are nonsense.

  3. I think I wouldn't choose a side. I'd rather not get involved in a fight and end up with people angry at me. I would listen to both their sides and then try to figure out if there is a peaceful view to give. I'd rather not fight a war that I'm not involved in, but like in real wars they'd try to pull you over to their side, and I don't think it's worth risking both their friendships over something that is stupid and will be resolved later.

  4. This has happened to me before and most of the time I try to hear both sides out so I know the whole story. But there are times when I hear one side and my first reaction is to get mad at the other person without listening to what they have to say. If I were to try to mediate their fight I would listen to each person and then tell them how I think they should handle the situation, I would be as fair as i could possibly be. Other times you just need to let them work it out themselves if it is not going to lead to violence.

  5. I would definety try to hear both sides of the story, but I wouldn't choose a side and turn against one of my friends unless I feel really strongly about something, and even then I wouldn't completely abandon the other person. I would probably hear them out and see if I can get them to make up without picking a side. I would definetly be afraid to lose one of my friends because of a little fight.

  6. I probably wouldn't take sides with who I would help, but I would try to help fix the situation. I would hear both sides and try to come up with a compromise for them that they can both be happy with. I wouldn't want to take sides because they're both my friends and I don't want to choose one over the other, I wouldn't play favorites. Even if I didn't agree with what was happening or what they were fighting about, I wouldn't leave them there to battle it out for themselves. I would try to make them see eye-to-eye on the situation and hopefully they would get along again.

  7. I've been put in this situation before, and trust me getting involved just makes matters worse. I would stay neutral and not take either sides. Play favorites is just going to most likely end up with one friend becoming your enemy. I would try to hear both of their stories and try to help them out, find a way to resolve the problem, but I wouldn't take either one of their sides.

  8. I don't think I would help right away and I definately wouldn't take sides because then it wouldn't be fair. First, I would listen to both sides and try to help them come to a compromise because then both sides will get something and they most likely wouldn't get mad at me. I also think that not helping would make them mad too because they need help and I think that helping both would be a good solution

  9. It depends what they are fighting about but most likely I would try to help them. I wouldn't take sides until I knew what each of their sides were about. If I took a side without thinking about the issue then their could be troubles and it would probably end badly for all three of us. I would definetly try to mediate and come to a conclusion.

  10. Yes I would help; but I may not take a side considering they're both my friends. It depends on the situation and how serious it is. It's possible that I wouldn't want to get involved between the two, especially if it would bring me into the middle of a fight.

  11. I would just stay out of it. It's their problem and they could work it out themselves. If I tried to help one of them it would just cause a bigger fight.

  12. No I did not! I had perfectly legally binding agreements..which yooooou didn't abide by!

  13. I would personally stay out of the situation becuase based on who you chose the other person would get mad. I would try to identify what the problem is. This would benefit both sides, but not fanor one party. If I don't help others would be any will me because I didn't help.

  14. I would be similar to a double agent and secretly help both sides. That leaves me with victory and the winner in the end and neither of them having a broken friendship after the fight.

  15. I wish that i would JUST STAY OUT OF IT lol but.... im the kind of person that always has to know what the fight is about and then i usually lean to one side and try to make the other person realize why they were "wrong". Then i would have them communicate about the conflict and encourage them to forgive each other and accept their difference in opinions.

  16. I would ask them what the problem is that they are fighting about, and then i would not pick sides because i could ruin a friendship with one of the friends. I would try to help both of them equally.

  17. If i were in this situation i would be torn on who to help. If i had a better relationship with one friend or i knew that they had helped me or they would stand by me, i would naturally help them more. Even so, i would want to keep friendships with both the people and so i would try my best to stay out of the fight. I would listen to what the people had to say but i wouldn't take any side. I would just be the person each side vented out too.

  18. If I were in this situation i would make some popcorn, set up a lawnchair, and enjoy the free entertainment. That is the only thing you can do without making someone angry. You should let them have their fight and settle their problem. Rather than intervening and forcing them to finish their fight at a different time. Let them get after it and stay out of it.

  19. If 2 of my friends got into a fight, I would let them handel it for themselves. I wouldn't try to purposely get involved because then that would mean I would have to pick a side. Luckily its not as bad for guys if they get into a fight. We just, "suck it up and deal".

  20. If two of my friends got into a fight, I would try to not get involved. I would hear out both sides, but not try to favor one side over the other. I might try to help end the fight, but not favor one side over the other.

  21. well, I would probably listen to both sides of the story and try to put myself in each of my amiga's shoes. If I felt one friend was clearly in the wrong, I would be honest, because I don't want to risk losing a great friend, who I think did nothing wrong, to save a friendship with someone who has a serious character flaw. Before I know it, I could be the one being stepped on by the flawed friend, and unfortunately, I will have turned my back on the one friend who would have understood.

  22. I think that first I would listen to both sides of the issue and then try to see if I had an opinion. Then if I had an honest opinion about who I thought was right I would tell them because I would want my friends to be honest with me if this ever happened to me. But if I didn't have an opinion I would try not to get involved because that usually turns out badly.

  23. I would not take a side in a situation like this. I would honestly rather not be in it at all, unless it has something to do with me. They should handle the problem themselves.

  24. Yes I would help by first breaking up the fight and identifying the problem. I would have to listen to the situation first before I would choose a side. I would only choose a side if the information is factual and I know it to be true. I think if someone is telling the truth they deserve to have someone on their side.

  25. I would try my hardest to stay out of it and keep my friendships with both people. this is almost best. it doesnt matter what its about, just as long as it isnt somthing stupid.

  26. For me this would need to be a specific situation. Obviously i'd at leat listen to both sides of the argument, and maybe depending on that make a decsion right then and there, however i may need to talk to other people and take in other information. There are however some friends i'd most likely side with right away, so long as their argument is not completely ridiculous, and they are actually right. I side with whoever i believe is right, and if it has nothing to do with it then i tend to be the mediator who has to find a solution both sides will accept. Essentially i am the middle person who writes the treaty to stop or prevent war, unless of course i'm out for a bloody battle which is a very rare occasion.

  29. I would not get involved and stay neutral. If you take one friends side the other friend will be upset. If you want the fight to be settled the two friends should figure out themselves, instead of dragging everyone who shouldn't be involved in. Sometime if the fight is no coming to an end, i might help figure out a solution to the problem, but not take either friends side.

As i learned in the game that we played on monday, alliances are unreliable and the countries that stayed neutral had the most power. Once they had power they could declare war and overtake other countries.

  30. I would listen to what the problem is and try to help as best i can without being forced to pick a side because i wouldn't want to lose either of my friends

    ReplyDelete
  31. In this situation I would help only if there was a solution in which each side benifitted. If this was not acheivable I would let the two people work it out and if things got out of handed or didn't work out I would possibly step in for the side that I felt was justified.

  33. I would not choose sides in this situation, however i would help figure out what is the problem between them. When I hear their sides, I will try to give advice to both of them to make the situation better. If the situation is impossible to fix, I would not get involved at all. I wouldn't want anyone mad at me.

  34. If this happened to me i would definitely not take sides. I would listen to both my friends sides of the story and try to help them find a solution but i would not tell one or the other if they were right or wrong because it would just get me involved and make a bigger fight. I would just try to help them but id rather not get involved in the first place less i can help.

  35. I would try and listen to both sides of the fight. However, it's my fight, it's between them and sometimes the little things ruin your friendships with people because something so small expands into something really big because people overreact to things. I think I would remind them to try and see it from the other person's point of view but I wouldn't agree with just one person so that I wouldn't damage my friendship with both of them.

  36. If this theoretical situation happened to me, I would attempt to take neither side. However, if my involvement was necessary, I would listen to both sides of the story and try to end the dispute civilly. If this does not work, I would point out, to each sides, mistakes in their thought process and hope they could come to an agreement themselves. Taking a side would not be in my best interests because it would undoubtedly end up with one person angry with me.

  38. I would probablly go with the friend that i trusted more. If one of the friends always took my back and the other, didn't, i would fight with the friend that had my back. But if both the friends were very close to me, i would probablly have to not fight with either. In this case i would listen to both their sides of the story and then try to help them talk out the problem.

  39. I would probablly not choose a side, because I would not want to lose a friend over something that I wasnt involved in. I would listen to the situation, and hear both sides of the problem. I would then try to help them fix the situation and try to help them stop fighting.

  40. First, yes I would try to help if they were my friends. If they were random people I would just stay away from the fight because it's pointless to get involved if you are in no way related. I would listen to both sides of the story and no matter who it is, if someone is more logical than the other I will side with them because it's fair. Hopefully after a while the two friends would just their being ridiculous and just get over it.
